Ambulance rolls over, hits a Kentucky volunteer firefighter during a crash.

A volunteer firefighter with the Flaherty Fire Department in western Kentucky was seriously injured Tuesday evening after being hit by an ambulance during a three-vehicle accident in Meade County, according to Kentucky State Police.

The accident happened at the intersection of US-60 and Joe Prather Highway. State police said a Meade County ambulance was heading north on Joe Prather Parkway with its sirens and lights activated when it was struck by a car traveling west on US-60.

The collision caused the ambulance to roll over, which is when it struck Lloyd Claycomb, the volunteer fireman, according to state police. He, along with the driver of the car that hit the ambulance, were flown to University of Louisville Hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday at 11:30 a.m., trooper Scottie Sharp with state police said Claycomb and the driver are expected to survive. Sharp also said it’s unlikely that the driver will face any charges.

State police say Claycomb was collecting donations for Crusade for Children at the time of the accident.

The ambulance also hit a truck during the accident. State police said the driver of the ambulance and one passenger were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was evaluated and checked out on scene.
