Daniel Boone National Forest is waiving camping, boating fees this Saturday. Find out where
This Saturday is National Get Outdoors Day, and the U.S. Forest Service at the Daniel Boone National Forest is waiving fees at its recreation sites, the park announced in a news release Tuesday.
“I hope that our visitors take this opportunity to explore a new trail or enjoy a new activity (in) the Forest,” Daniel Boone National Forest Supervisor H. Scott Ray said in the release.
“National Get Outdoors Day, or ‘GO Day,’ was established as a way for both experienced outdoor enthusiasts and complete newcomers to get out and explore all the opportunities their public lands have to offer,” Ray said.
According to the release, fees will be waived Saturday, June 11 at all Daniel Boone National Forest recreation areas, but not for concessions and reserved group-use areas.
Spanning 21 counties in eastern Kentucky, the Daniel Boone National Forest includes more than 708,000 acres of woodlands.
The forest is a hiking destination, including popular draws like the Red River Gorge and Sheltowee Trace trail system. That said, there’s much more to do there than just hiking or camping. Rock climbers visit to scale eastern Kentucky’s sandstone cliffs, and you can test your mettle by canoeing down the wild Red River.
The park included the following list of day-use sites where fees will be waived Saturday:
Cave Run Lake – all boat ramps outside of developed campgrounds
Laurel River Lake – all boat ramps outside of developed campgrounds
Bee Rock Boat Ramp – Laurel County
Clear Creek Boat Ramp – Bath County

Appletree Shooting Range – McCreary County
Keno Shooting Range – Pulaski County
Whitman Branch Shooting Range – Laurel County

Campgrounds where fees will be waived Saturday evening only:
Backcountry camping in the Red River Gorge – Menifee, Powell and Wolfe counties
Bee Rock Campground – Laurel and Pulaski counties
S-Tree Campground – Jackson County
Great Meadows Campground – McCreary County
Barren Fork Horse Camp – McCreary County
