When a Somerset woman stopped in at her favorite convenience store, purchased a scratch-off ticket and discovered she’d won the top prize, she was so caught off guard she had to check the ticket again… four more times.

“I started scratching off the ticket,” Rachael Dabney told Kentucky Lottery officials, according to a news release announcing the award Tuesday.

“I went to scratch the prize and saw a two, a one, and a zero. I thought it was $210 - but then I saw the comma!” Dabney said.

She realized she had won the game’s top $210,000 prize.

“I had to look at (the ticket) five times,” she said.

Dabney bought the winning, $10 Power 10’s scratch-off ticket at the Stanford Food Mart & Donut Shop, where she frequently stops because of the friendly staff.

When Dabney called her husband, David, he didn’t believe her.

“I was like, ‘yeah right,’” he said.

Rachael Dabney then made a FaceTime call to show him the winning ticket.

“I believed her then,” David told officials.

The couple ultimately walked away with a check totaling $149,100 after taxes. The Dabneys said they might buy a new truck or used cars for their two children who will be of driving age soon.

Stanford Food Mart & Donut Shop will receive a $2,100 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

“It’s a blessing. We wouldn’t be able to buy them cars if we hadn’t won,” Rachel Dabney said.
