Federal agencies investigating after 1 reported dead in a Kentucky plane crash

Multiple federal agencies are investigating a plane crash in Harrison County Wednesday afternoon that left one dead.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a single-engine Piper J-3 Cub crashed at Cynthiana-Harrison County Airport while trying to land. One woman was pronounced dead on scene and a man was sent to the hospital with serious injuries, according to WKYT, the Herald-Leader’s news-reporting partner.

Investigators told WKYT the plane nose-dived into a grass field and weather could have been a factor in the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board has confirmed it’s also investigating the crash. The FAA said the NTSB is in charge of the investigation.

The NTSB is an independent federal agency that investigates every civil aviation accident in the United States as well as other significant accidents.
