Kentucky man ‘never imagined’ winning the lottery, then scratched off a $500K ticket
A Louisville man is in disbelief after he scratched off a winning Kentucky Lottery ticket worth $500,000.
“I never imagined this would ever be me. I’m just amazed,” said the man, who is remaining anonymous, according to a Thursday release from Kentucky Lottery.
Monday, while taking his break at work, the man walked to the Circle K on Mud Lane in Louisville to buy some cigarettes. With some extra money in his pocket, he decided to try his luck and buy three $20 scratch-off tickets, the lottery reported.
Scratching off one of the tickets, it revealed that he’d won $2,000, then $50,000.
“I scratched off the fourth number and saw another 5X for $10,000, another $50,000 prize. I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m at $104,000!’” the man told state lottery officials. “They probably thought I stole something, I ran out of the store so fast.”
The man returned to work and finished scratching off the rest of the ticket.
After uncovering a win in all 20 spots on the ticket, he realized he’d won the game’s top prize – $500,000. He couldn’t believe it.
“I was in shock. I had so much going on in my head,” the man said. “I never felt like I was going to ever get ahead.”
After taxes, the Jefferson County man was given a check for $355,000. It wasn’t clear what he plans to do with his earnings, and a lottery representative didn’t immediately respond to a query about that Thursday.
The Circle K which sold the winning ticket will also receive a $5,000 bonus, the news release said.
