1 dead, 4 others flown to a hospital after a crash, Kentucky police say

One person was killed and four others were injured in a collision in Knox County Tuesday evening, according to Kentucky State Police.

The accident happened at the intersection of U.S. 25E and KY 1304 in Bimble.

State police identified the woman who died as Thelma Ash, 81, of Salem, Oregon. Ash was pronounced dead at Barbourville ARH hospital, according to a news release.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Bridgett Mills, 32, turned into the path of a 2016 Kia Soul driven by Stacey Ash, 32, while trying to turn left from US 25E onto KY 1304, according to the news release.

The woman who died was in the back seat of the Kia. The driver of that car, Stacey Ash, and another passenger, 68-year-old James Ash, were flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn., for treatment, state police said.

Mills and a 7-year-old girl in her vehicle also were flown to the hospital in Tennessee.

State police said drugs and alcohol were not suspected as factors in the accident at this time. The investigation is continuing.
