‘She had a bright future.’ Teenager, small child killed in Eastern Kentucky UTV accident

A 4-year-old and a 15-year-old are dead as a result of a UTV accident in Magoffin County that happened Saturday evening, according to Kentucky State Police.

The accident happened on Kentucky Route 7 in Salyersville. State police’s preliminary investigation determined that a UTV with three occupants inside went off the road, over an embankment and into a tree.

A deputy coroner told WKYT, the Herald-Leader’s reporting partner, that the 15-year-old victim was Angelica Rife. The 4-year-old’s name was Branston Hill, according to WKYT. He was taken to a hospital and later died.

Another 15-year-old, who was the driver of the UTV, was also transported to the hospital. State police said that minor was in critical condition Sunday afternoon.

The vehicle was a 2018 Polaris UTV, or utility terrain vehicle, often called a side-by-side.

Rife was a student at Magoffin County High School.

“Angelica was a member of our Hornet family,” said the high school in a Facebook post. “We are certain that she had a bright future ahead of her. While she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know her.”
