Kentucky man speechless, shaking after discovering scratch-off is worth $777K
Munfordville resident Eddie Polston recently won $777,000 in the Kentucky Lottery by scoring a lucky “777,” multiplying what would have been a prize of $111,000.
Polston spent $20 on a scratch-off ticket from a Five Star on Main Street in Munfordville Nov. 8. Munfordville is located in Hart County, about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Lexington by car.
“When I saw the triple sevens, I was hoping it was at least ten dollars but then I saw the three ones,” Polston said, according to a Nov. 15 Kentucky Lottery statement.
He took the ticket back to Five Star to confirm his big win, and said the store clerk “screamed so loud” after scanning it. The store will receive a bonus of $7,700 for selling the winning ticket.
“I was speechless,” Polston told Kentucky Lottery officials. “I couldn’t hold onto anything. I dropped the ticket because I was shaking so bad.”
The lucky player picked up his $551,670 check the following day, and he told lottery officials he “hadn’t slept at all and that once he got the check in the bank, he would be able to sleep.”
Polston told Kentucky Lottery officials he plans to use his winnings to pay off bills.
