An individual in Eastern Kentucky was killed in a house fire Sunday, according to Kentucky State Police.

The fire happened in the 9700 block of Winchester Road in Clay City. State police said human remains were located inside the residence after the fire was extinguished. According to WKYT, the Herald-Leader’s news-reporting partner, the victim was 7 years old.

Police said three minors were sent to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with injuries, according to state police. Two adults were also sent to a local hospital for treatment, according to state police.

Officials told WKYT the fire was at a mobile home. Maj. Lisa Johnson said the call about the fire was reported around 11 a.m. Sunday.

“It’s devastating,” Johnson, who serves as the department’s public information officer, told WKYT. “It’s the most horrific thing I’ve ever felt in my life standing there. I felt helpless, because the first thing you want to do is run in and you can’t.”
