Former UK sprinter, theatre alum will compete on ‘The Voice’ this week. Here’s when
A former University of Kentucky sprinter will be featured on this season of “The Voice,” an Emmy Award-winning music contest that features up and coming musicians from across the nation.
Chloe Abbott, a former All-American UK track star and current professional runner for On Running, will compete in the blind audition round of the competition. It will be aired on NBC on Monday at 8 p.m. and Tuesday at 9 p.m.
If Abbott advances out of the blind audition stage, she will move on to the battle round portion of the competition. The judges for this season of “The Voice” are Chance the Rapper, Niall Horan, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton.
Abbott has performed the National Anthem at UK basketball and football games previously and was featured in the Department of Theatre and Dance’s 2019 production of “Cabaret.” She earned a minor in vocal performance from UK. Her biography for UK track and field indicated that she aspires to become a professional performer and act on Broadway.
As a track athlete for UK, Abbott was a two-time First Team All-American. At the 2019 NCAA outdoor championships, she finished second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 50.98 seconds, which was her personal best, according to World Athletics. A few months before at the indoor national championship meet, Abbott helped guide the 4x400-meter relay team to an eighth place finish.
Faith Ross, Masai Russell and Abby Steiner were the other members of that All-American relay team.
Abbott also ran for Purdue her freshman and sophomore seasons, where she was a three-time First Team All-American.
As a professional runner, Abbott participated in the 400-meter dash at the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2021.
