Firefighters battle flames at a Ky. hotel, marking second major fire in the town in a week
Firefighters in Somerset battled another large fire Wednesday.
The fire happened at the Best Western Hotel on Jefferson Drive at approximately 5:30 p.m., according to the Somerset Fire Department. When firefighters arrived they discovered a fast-growing fire in the attic area of the building.
Firefighters searched each floor for civilians while simultaneously attacking the fire, the fire department said. As the fire began to stabilize crews did a secondary search and determined all occupants were accounted for.
The hotel reported everyone present at the hotel was accounted for and no injuries were reported.
Because of the location of the fire, the overhead sprinkler system did not activate, according to the fire department.
All off-duty personnel and multiple nearby fire departments assisted with putting out the fire, the fire department said. Crews were on scene for approximately nine hours.
The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
Photos posted to social media showed significant smoke and flames coming from the roof of the building, as well as damage to the roof after the fire was put out.
This is the second large structure fire to happen in Somerset in a week. On March 23, Cornerstone Baptist Church suffered heavy damage as a result of a fire to the classroom portion of the church. No injuries were reported in that incident either, according to officials.
