Kentucky woman who recently lost her job takes chance on lottery ticket — and wins big
A Georgetown woman who recently lost her job won $50,000 after purchasing a lottery ticket at a convenience store, according to a Thursday Kentucky Lottery press release.
Christina Ballman stopped at Clark’s Pump-N-Shop in Georgetown to buy ice when she decided to also grab a $2 million Diamond Dazzler scratch-off ticket. She waited until she got to Lexington to scratch the ticket.
“I was like, ‘This isn’t going to be a winner,’” she told Kentucky lottery officials.
But when she finally scratched off the ticket, she saw the “auto” sign, which meant she won $50,000.
“I was in complete shock,” Ballman said. “You always think about it [winning], but when it really happens, I couldn’t believe it.”
The odds of winning any Diamond Dazzler prize are 1 in 3.12, according to Kentucky Lottery. The prizes range from $40 up to $2 million.
Ballman earned $35,750 after taxes. She said the money will help her pay off her car.
The convenience store will get $500 for selling the ticket to Ballman.
