An officer-involved shooting Monday in Harlan County left one man dead, Kentucky State Police said.

The Harlan Police Department requested that state police investigate the incident.

The shooting occurred at 1:43 a.m. and a man, who was not a police officer, was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman was flown to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington for injuries sustained “during a domestic violence altercation,” state police said in a news release.

The shooting took place in the Harlan Housing Authority location in the community of Fairview, the Harlan Enterprise reported.
