A 14-year-old boy died Saturday in Harlan County after the ATV he was riding overturned and landed on him, Kentucky State Police said.

At 3:37 p.m. Saturday, Kentucky State Police said in a news release, officials received a call of a single vehicle ATV accident in Harlan County.

The 14 year old was operating the ATV when it overturned and landed on him. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, state police said.

Harlan County Deputy Coroner John Jones on Sunday identified the victim as Timothy Hickson of Harlan.

Of the seven people killed in ATV accidents in Kentucky in fiscal year 2022, five were not wearing a helmet, according to an annual Kentucky State Police report.
