3-year-old dies after ATV flips on Kentucky trail

A 3-year-old boy died after an ATV collision in Pike County Thursday night.

The child was a passenger on a Honda all terrain vehicle being operated by Jeremy Griffey, 25, of Ashcamp, on the Hillbilly Trails System in the Dorton area, Kentucky State Police said in a news release.

State police said the ATV overturned, and they were called to the scene at 9:48 p.m.

The little boy was taken to Pikeville Medical Center, where he later died, according to state police.

The recently-opened trail system’s website indicates that the multi-use trails are 20 miles south of Pikeville. The website says that while there is no age restriction enforced, anyone under 16 must wear a helmet and “all passengers must meet the manufacturer’s minimum age and/or size requirements for the machine they will be on.”
