Family in disbelief after $10 online lottery wager turns into big jackpot for KY woman
An anonymous Vine Grove woman spun $10 into nearly $200,000 with a recent online Kentucky Lottery wager.
In a release Wednesday, the organization said the woman put $10 on the online app game Celtic Coins Jackpot to win $170,900.
“Nobody believed me,” the woman told Kentucky Lottery officials.
The game, which launched in 2022, is a progressive jackpot Instant Play game, according to the lottery.
While playing, the woman entered the “coin frenzy” phase of the game, per the release, and struck it big.
“It went to the first level, then the second level and the prize kept going up,” she told lottery officials. “It got all the way to the top and it said ‘jackpot winner.’”
She was in disbelief, as were her family members.
“I called my husband at work and said, ‘You know I play online lottery, well I just won $170,000!,’” she said.
She told lottery officials she had to show him the win on her phone, and even her parents were initially skeptical of the news.
The woman collected her winnings, which totaled $122,194.16 after taxes, at Kentucky Lottery headquarters in Louisville Friday.
Fresh off her win, the woman said she didn’t have immediate plans for the money.
