Kentucky rescue teams continue search for swimmer who went missing Friday

Authorities are searching for a swimmer who went missing Friday evening in Laurel Lake.

Around 5 p.m. Friday, the London-Laurel County 911 Center received a report of a possible drowning at Laurel River Lake, according to a post on the London-Laurel County Rescue Squad Facebook page. Rescue Units responded to an area near Sulphur Spring Branch where the swimmer was last seen.

Searchers utilized divers and underwater drones Saturday in an effort to find the missing swimmer.

No identifying information on the person had been released as of Sunday afternoon.

Search efforts continued Sunday with the help of a scent searching canine, according to the rescue squad.

Also assisting the London-Laurel Rescue Squad are Laurel County Emergency Management, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, Laurel County Sheriff’s Office and the London Police Department.
