Kentucky woman spends a buck on a lottery ticket and walks away with big jackpot win
An anonymous Louisville woman and her husband screamed ecstatically when the woman discovered she’d won big playing lottery game Kentucky 5 this week.
“It was crazy!,” the Louisville woman said, according to a Thursday Kentucky Lottery news release. “We screamed: ‘We won it!’ I was like ‘Oh, wow!”
The woman found she’d won the Kentucky 5 jackpot when she scanned her winning, $1 ticket Monday using the state lottery’s mobile phone app. She matched all five numbers to win the game’s $455,000 top prize.
The July 10 winning numbers were 2, 10, 16, 20, 21, according to draw results posted on the Kentucky Lottery website.
The game, which is exclusive to the state, tasks player with choosing five balls, numbered 1 to 39, or using the Quick Pick option to have them randomly selected. The odds of a jackpot win on the game are 1 in 575,757, according to Kentucky Lottery.
After taxes, the woman received a check for $325,325. She told lottery officials she and her husband will buy a new home with the winnings.
The Speedway on Shepherdsville Road in Louisville will receive a prize of $4,550 for selling the winning ticket.
