Two teen boys died after a collision involving a personal watercraft and a boat on Lake Cumberland Friday afternoon.

The teens, from Villa Hills in Kenton County, were on a personal watercraft that collided with a motorboat near the Woodson Bend Boat Dock near Bronston, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources said in a news release. It happened in the South Fork part of the Cumberland River at about 12:45 p.m.

The boat that was involved took the victims to shore, where they were treated by Somerset-Pulaski County EMS before being declared dead at the scene by the Pulaski County coroner, the release stated.

Coroner Clyde Strunk said the teens were 18 and 14 years old.

Strunk declined to release the victims’ identities Friday night, saying “I don’t think it would be helpful to the family to release any names.”

Strunk told WKYT that the boys were brothers and that they were wearing life jackets while riding the jet ski together. He told the television station the part of the lake where the crash occurred is narrow and can be challenging to navigate with many watercraft on it at once. Strunk said he does not think alcohol was a factor in the collision.

The bodies were taken to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, according to the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
