Kentucky attorney killed in a crash, state police say. Another suffers serious injuries
One Campbellsville attorney was killed and another was seriously injured in a crash while on a utility terrain vehicle early Monday morning, according to Kentucky State Police.
The wreck happened on Hatcher Road in Taylor County. KSP said Joseph Bott, 42, was driving a Honda Pioneer UTV when he misjudged a curve, causing the UTV to leave the road and flip.
Bott was ejected from the UTV, KSP said. He was transported to Taylor Regional Hospital, where he later died.
Jeremy Wood, a 42-year-old Campbellsville resident, was a passenger in the UTV, according to KSP. He suffered serious injuries and was flown to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.
Bott had been an assistant commonwealth’s attorney with the 11th Judicial Circuit since 2007, according to his profile on Bertram, Cox & Miller, where he was a partner. He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky and a law degree at Salmon P. Chase College of Law.
Bott loved to fish, hunt, spend time with his family and be outdoors, according to his obituary.
“He was known as a loving husband, father, and friend who loved big; loved hard and if you knew him, you loved him,” his obituary read.
Wood has been practicing law in Campbellsville and surrounding counties since 2007, according to his profile on Wood Law Firm. He earned his law degree from the University of Kentucky. He also is an assistant commonwealth’s attorney in the 11th Circuit, which serves Green, Marion, Taylor and Washington counties, according to the local prosecutor’s website.
Attorney General Daniel Cameron, who’s also the Republican candidate for governor, said in a social media post Wednesday he and his wife were saddened by the news and asked people to keep the Campbellsville community in their thoughts and prayers.
Visitation for Bott will be held at Campbellsville Christian Church on Friday from 11 a.m. to noon. His memorial service will take place after visitation.
