University of Kentucky fraternity raising money for house mom whose house burned down
A University of Kentucky fraternity is raising money through a GoFundMe page for its house mother who lost her home in a fire.
The fire happened Saturday at Chasity Conley’s residence in Bath County. Owingsville Fire Chief Christopher Wells said a woman was driving a vehicle nearby when she suffered a medical emergency, causing her to leave the road and collide with the house.
The house caught fire right after the collision, according to Hall. It spread to the attic pretty quickly and left behind irreparable damage.
“It probably ran half and three-quarters away across the attic before we could ever get a knock on it, get it stopped,” Hall said.
No one was home at the time. Hall said the driver suffered minor injuries.
John Sutherland, assistant police chief with the Owingsville Police Department, said two bystanders pulled the woman out of the vehicle before it caught fire.
“When I talked to her, she didn’t even remember getting off the road,” Hall said.
Sigma Nu has raised more than $3,500 in the days since the fire. It has a goal of raising $5,000.
“Chasity means the world to us and has been the cornerstone of our chapter here at Sigma Nu for her duration of working here,” the fraternity wrote in an Instagram post. “Chasity would come to our help in a tragedy like this and we whole heartedly will be behind her throughout this whole process.”
