University of Kentucky employee dies in car crash, officials say

A University of Kentucky employee was killed in a car crash Sunday, according to Kentucky State Police.

The wreck happened on KY 389 in Henry County. KSP said 33-year-old Justin Brindley, of Lexington, was driving a Nissan passenger car when it went off the left side of the road for an unknown reason and struck a tree.

The Henry County Coroner’s Office pronounced Brindley dead at the scene, KSP said. He was the only person in the car when the crash happened.

Brindley worked at UK as a heating/cooling plant operator, UK confirmed Tuesday morning. The university said he had worked there since August 2018.

WKYT, the Herald-Leader’s news-reporting partner, reported that Brindley was also a Tates Creek High School graduate and a Special Olympics athlete.

KSP said Monday it was still investigating the crash.
