54-year-old woman in Kentucky killed in a house fire, state police say

A 54-year-old woman was killed in a house fire early Monday morning in Laurel County, according to Kentucky State Police.

The fire happened around 1 a.m. on Terrell Road, which is approximately 10 miles south of London. KSP said the woman, later identified as Melissa Creech of London, was declared dead inside the burnt residence. Firefighters found her after extinguishing the flames.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire, according to KSP. State police are leading the investigation. Several other agencies, including the state fire marshal, local fire departments and the Laurel County Coroner’s Office, responded to the scene.
