‘She thought I was joking.’ Kentucky man’s wife didn’t believe his huge lottery win
A Marion County man won $50,000 after his Kentucky Lottery ticket came up a winner, though his wife couldn’t believe the news.
Thomas Peavy, of Lebanon, bought a $50 Millionaire Club ticket at the Country Convenient store May 22, according to a Monday Kentucky Lottery news release. Before scratching off the ticket, Peavy scanned it to see if it was a winner and sure enough, it was.
Because Peavy is known as somewhat of a jokester, his win surprised more than a few.
“I’m always messing around with the store owner and said, ‘I won $50,000!’” Peavy told Kentucky Lottery officials, according to the release. “He about broke his neck to get around to see it.”
Peavy’s wife also found it hard to believe.
“She thought I was joking,” Peavy said. “I had to go back to the store with her and scan the ticket to show her.”
The next day, Peavy claimed his check at Kentucky Lottery headquarters in Louisville, a requirement for larger prizes.
After taxes, Peavy took home a check for $36,000, according to the release. He plans to use the money to buy a new truck.
Country Convenient in Lebanon will also receive $500 for selling the winning ticket.
The Marion County man isn’t the only recent winner on Millionaire Club. In April, the lottery announced a Hopkinsville woman had also won $50,000 on the game.
