A Kentucky fire department has placed one of its members on administrative leave after a photo of a volunteer firefighter sitting on the outside of a moving car went viral.

The photo was posted to an Estill County community group page on Facebook. The user who posted the photo said the vehicle was traveling on KY 82 in Irvine and the firefighter sat outside the vehicle on the passenger door for roughly two miles. The firefighter was identified as a male between 20-30 years old.

The individual sitting outside the vehicle was wearing a Clay City Fire Department shirt. He was not identified in the Facebook post or by the fire department.

On Monday, the Clay City Fire Department said the photo had been brought to their attention and they’ve identified the individual in the photo. The firefighter has been placed on administrative leave while a board of directors reviews the incident.

The information has also been turned over to law enforcement, the fire department said.

“We do not condone this kind of behavior from any of our members,” the fire department said in a Facebook post. “We appreciate the community making us aware of this incident.”
