Northern Kentucky man wakes up wife to surprise her with news of a huge lottery win
A Northern Kentucky man brought home a massive check earlier this month after scratching off a $225,000 Kentucky Lottery win.
For the Henry County man, who according to the lottery wants to remain anonymous, it was his first big win despite being a regular player. Aug. 7, the man won the top prize on a 100X The Cash scratch-off ticket. According to the game’s odds, the overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 3.25.
On the night the man stopped at the Pilot Travel Center in Pendleton, he bought a few of the $10 scratch-off tickets and uncovered a “50X” symbol next to $500 on one.
He decided to finish scratching off the ticket at home.
Back at home, the man woke up his wife and had her scratch off the ticket. The rest of the ticket depicted a “100X” symbol next to $2,000.
Needless to say, the man didn’t get much sleep that night, eager to travel to Louisville and collect his prize. His wife was also in disbelief.
“She called me right after I left home this morning,” the man said, according to a Tuesday Kentucky Lottery news release. “She said, ‘was I dreaming last night? Or did you really hit the lottery?’ I said, ‘No, I really did!’”
After taxes, the man took home a check for $162,000. He plans to use the money to pay off his bills and treat his wife to a vacation.
This is the second large scratch-off ticket winner Kentucky Lottery has announced in the last week. Friday, the organization reported Friday a Hopkinsville woman won $50,000 before taxes on a different game.
