Did you play the Powerball? Winning $500K ticket sold in Kentucky is still up for grabs

If you recently bought a Powerball ticket in southeastern Kentucky, you might want to check your numbers.

A winning Powerball ticket worth $500,000 remains unclaimed, Kentucky Lottery officials said in a media release Monday. The ticket, which became a winner through Oct. 12’s Powerball Double Play drawing, will expire in roughly six months.

The winning ticket’s numbers — 18, 22, 32, 41 and 49 — matched all five white balls drawn as part of the weekend’s Double Play drawing. However, it did not match the red No. 24 Powerball, ultimately limiting the second-tier prize to $500,000.

The Pilot Travel Center located at 249 West Cumberland Gap Parkway in Corbin sold the winning ticket, according to lottery officials.

No ticket won the Powerball jackpot over the weekend, lottery officials said. The next drawing is slated for 11 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14 with the jackpot currently estimated at $388 million.

In Kentucky, Powerball players have up to 180 days following a drawing to claim prizes from that drawing’s tickets. Winners are advised to sign the backs of their ticket, keep it in a secure location and claim their prize at the Kentucky Lottery’s headquarters in Louisville.

Powerball players are tasked with correctly picking five numbers between one and 69, plus a Powerball between one and 26, on each $2 ticket. For an extra $1, the Double Play add-on enters a player’s numbers into a second drawing with a grand prize of $10 million.

Back in June, the Kentucky Lottery became the third state lottery to begin selling a $10 million Powerball Double Play ticket. A Circle K convenience store in Crestwood, Kentucky, sold a winning $10 million ticket in August and earned a $100,000 selling bonus in the process.

The overall odds of winning any prize through Powerball drawings are roughly 1 in 24.87, according to the game’s official rules. The chances of matching all five white balls in a Double Play drawing, just as Kentucky’s recent winner did, are about 1 in 11.69 million. Ultimately, players have about a 1 in 292.2 million shot at matching all five white balls and the Powerball in either a traditional Powerball drawing or a Double Play drawing.
