Two juveniles charged with setting fire at Kentucky middle school

Two juveniles have been charged with setting a fire that damaged a Kentucky middle school and forced classes to relocate for a day, according to the Stanford Police Department.

The fire happened Tuesday at Lincoln County Middle School. School officials said the fire was contained to one classroom and was safely extinguished. No injuries were reported.

Students were immediately evacuated from the building and relocated to Lincoln County High School, according to LCPS. The students were dismissed from high school on a regular schedule.

Stanford police said Wednesday the initial investigation indicated the fire was possibly “criminal in nature.”

Officials later determined two juveniles started the fire. Stanford police said the juveniles were charged with first-degree arson and first-degree criminal mischief.

Schools resumed their normal operating schedule on Wednesday.

“So thankful everyone is safe,” Lincoln County Middle School said in a Facebook post. “Shoutout to our first responders and all those who answered the call!”
