An Anderson County high school student died in a crash Monday, according to school officials.

Colton Fridh, 16, lost control of his car and hit a tree, according to a GoFundMe posted by his father, Daniel Fridh. It was his son’s first car.

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, which investigated the crash, was not immediately available for comment Thursday morning.

Colton enjoyed fishing, hiking, exploring the woods and listening to old country music, according to his obituary.

“He was a true animal lover and volunteered at the Humane Society taking care of stray cats and dogs,” the obituary said.

Colton was a student at Anderson County High School. In a post on their Facebook, Anderson County Schools said they will miss him deeply.

“We are here to support family and friends as they navigate this difficult time,” the post read. “We have certified staff available to meet with students as requested or needed. Please keep Colton’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers in the coming days and weeks. As opportunities arise to assist this family, we will share those with our Bearcat family.”

A GoFundMe was set up Tuesday in an effort to raise $10,000 to help with burial expenses. The remaining cost of funeral services were paid for Thursday by Father Jim Sichko, Papal Missionary of Mercy for Pope Francis.

A private service will be held for the family with burial at Grove Hill Cemetery.
