KSP: Impairment believed to be the main factor in fatal Kentucky crash

Impairment is believed to be the main factor in a fatal Kentucky crash that happened in Knott County Thursday, according to Kentucky State Police.

The wreck happened on KY-80 in the Bearville community of Knott County. KSP said a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 37-year-old William Campbell, of Leburn, was traveling east on KY-80 and crossed the median into the westbound lanes.

The vehicle went off the westbound shoulder and struck a rock embankment, according to KSP. Campbell was transported to Hazard A.R.H, where he later died.

A passenger inside the vehicle was injured and released on scene with minor injuries.

KSP said impairment is believed to be the main contributor to the wreck. Toxicology reports are pending and an investigation is ongoing.

Campbell also wasn’t wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred, according to KSP. The passenger was wearing a seat belt.

Knott County is about 130 miles southeast of Lexington.
