17-year-old boy killed after crashing into Kentucky courthouse

A teenager died Tuesday after crashing a car into a Kentucky courthouse, according to Barbourville police.

The wreck happened shortly before 6 a.m. Police said the 17-year-old boy was speeding down Knox Street when he lost control and ran into the Knox County courthouse.

The teen was transported to Barbourville Appalachian Regional Healthcare, where he later died.

Barbourville police are investigating the crash.

A column was knocked off the courthouse as a result of the collision. WKYT reported the entrance near where the crash happened is closed but the building is open. Structural engineers have been called to assess the damage.
