A woman was severely injured after her house exploded Wednesday in Laurel County, according to Kentucky State Police.

The explosion happened around 3:16 p.m. at a home on Glenview Road in northern Laurel County. KSP said the homeowner, 66-year-old Shirley Wynn, sustained severe burns, covering approximately 80% of her body.

Wynn was taken to CHI Saint Joseph Health Hospital in London before being transported to a specialized burn treatment facility in Louisville, according to KSP.

Preliminary findings in the investigation suggest propane gas used for floor space heaters may have caused the explosion, according to KSP. East Bernstadt Fire & Rescue and KSP are investigating the explosion.

The house was fully engulfed in flames when the East Bernstadt Fire Department arrived at the home. The fire department shared photos of the scene on its Facebook page.
