‘Dukes of Hazzard’ star John Schneider to hold concert in Hazard to help flood victims
He’s just a good ol’ boy, and he’s planning to come back to Hazard to try to do some good next month.
Actor and singer John Schneider, who originated the role of Bo Duke on the television series “The Dukes of Hazzard,” announced on social media Friday that he plans to host a flood relief concert in Hazard on April 8, which is also Schneider’s 65th birthday.
Tickets are available online at Etix.com.
Schneider, also known for the roles of Jonathan Kent on “Smallville” and Jim Cryer on Tyler Perry’s “The Haves and the Have Nots,” is a chart-topping country music artist who has released a number of albums.
“There comes a time when, if given the opportunity, you get to pay back those who have given you so much,” Schneider wrote in a Facebook post.
“I am forever in debt to the town of Hazard, Kentucky, and all who lived there for obvious reasons.
“My folks taught me that it was ‘better to give than to receive’ so this is my way of saying thank you to this wonderful city and its resilient people on my birthday.”
It’s not the first time this Duke boy has hosted a benefit concert in Hazard.
Schneider and his “Dukes” costar Tom Wopat held a joint concert in Hazard in 1982 to raise money for people affected by a mining disaster in Knott County, WYMT reported.
Schneider himself has experienced the effects of natural disasters.
In 2021, he was in Tennessee to offer flood relief when Hurricane Ida damaged his home and studio in Louisiana, toppling a tree that landed atop a General Lee stunt car. His home was also damaged by flooding in 2016, according to media reports.
The flooding that deluged Kentucky beginning Feb. 14 affected as many as 60 businesses along Hazard’s Main Street and in other parts of town, the city’s downtown coordinator told the Herald-Leader days after the flood. Perry County Judge-Executive Scott Alexander said at the time that his office had received about 200 reports of flooded homes.
