Lottery launched a new bourbon-themed game. Kentucky pastor just won the jackpot

While traffic is just an annoyance for most, it ended up being an unexpected blessing for one Kentucky man, according to a Tuesday Kentucky Lottery press release.

Scott Reynolds, of Corbin, and his wife missed several of their exits due to traffic when they were on a recent road trip, which led them to stop at Rocket Food Mart in Frankfort to pick up some snacks. That’s where a store clerk suggested Reynolds purchase a Kentucky Bourbon Trail scratch-off ticket.

The scratch-off game is new, having just launched earlier this month.

“Sometimes redirections are actually putting you on the path that you’re intended to be on,” Reynolds told Kentucky Lottery officials of his unexpected stop and ticket purchase.

The couple scratched the ticket in their vehicle. They quickly found out they won, but didn’t realize the extent of their prize.

“[My wife] said, well, I think we just won $2,500 so I’m already praising the Lord,” Reynolds said.

When his wife scanned the ticket on the Kentucky Lottery mobile app, the couple discovered they had won the $75,000 jackpot.

“And that’s how my hands left the steering wheel, I was up in the air!” the Corbin man said.

As of April 21, there were three $75,000 prizes remaining for the new scratch-off game, according to Kentucky Lottery’s website. The overall odds of winning any prize, which start at $5 and go all the way up to the jackpot, are 1 in 2.92.

The couple received a check for $54,000 after taxes following their jackpot win.

Reynolds, who is a pastor, said he wants to spend some of the money on a new church van.

“We don’t have a vehicle; we pick people up in our private cars,” Reynolds said. “With a van, it’s going enable us to be able to reach out to places, because a lot of people don’t have transportation.”

The market that sold the ticket will receive $750 as a bonus.

“We’ve been seriously blessed by this,” Reynolds said.
