Officials searching for man who was aboard capsized boat in Laurel County

Officials in Laurel County are searching for a missing 26-year-old man after he was aboard a boat that capsized Sunday.

The incident happened around 12:15 p.m. on Laurel Lake near the KY 312 dam off East City Dam Road. The London — Laurel Rescue Squad said there were two people aboard the boat when it capsized, one of whom was able to make it to shore, while the other never resurfaced.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office identified the missing man as John Myrick, of Gray. The sheriff’s office said Myrick was last seen wearing a gray and black jacket and blue jeans.

Officials searched the waters for Myrick Sunday. The rescue squad said search efforts will continue Monday morning.

Several other agencies, including Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, Keavy Volunteer Fire Department, Corbin Fire Department, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, and Laurel-Whitley County Emergency Management, helped search for the man.
