Two dead after KY driver has medical emergency, collides with ATV in emergency lane

Two people were killed in a crash Wednesday in McCreary County after a car collided with an ATV in an emergency lane, according to Kentucky State Police.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 27 in the Parkers Lake community of McCreary County. KSP said initial investigations indicate 77-year-old Linda Moncrief, of Stearns, was driving a Toyota Highlander in the northbound lanes and had a medical emergency.

Moncrief crossed the center line and grazed a motorcycle with two occupants. KSP said neither occupant of the motorcycle was hurt.

Moncrief continued driving the wrong way on U.S. 27 and later hit an ATV in the emergency lane, according to KSP. The Highlander and ATV both went off the road and came to rest in a wooded area.

The ATV’s driver, 74-year-old Roger Stanton, of Parkers Lake, was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to KSP. Moncrief was also pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in Moncrief’s vehicle was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center and is stable, according to KSP. Both Moncrief and the passenger were wearing seat belts.

Moncrief and Stanton’s bodies were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office, and autopsies are pending. KSP is investigating the collision.
