Lightning strike at Kentucky farm leaves more than a dozen cows dead

More than a dozen cows were found dead on a Central Kentucky farm recently after a thunderstorm hammered the area, according to media reports.

The incident happened Friday night at a farm in Jeffersonville, just a few miles southeast of Mt. Sterling in Montgomery County. WYMT reported that a strong thunderstorm went through the area and a lightning strike killed 14 cows.

Most of the cows, including one heifer, were found dead around a tree trunk the morning after the storm passed, according to WYMT. It was not immediately clear Wednesday afternoon if they all died from the lightning strike itself or falling debris.

The family that owned the cows lost $40,000 as a result of their deaths, WYMT reported.
