A man is dead after he was allegedly shot and killed by his father, according to Kentucky State Police.

The shooting happened Monday at a home on Binghamtown Road in the Flat Lick community of Knox County, according to an arrest citation.

State Police Trooper Shane Jacobs said in a post on social media that 68-year-old John Hall allegedly shot his son, Jonathan Hall, 47, following a verbal altercation inside the father’s home.

Jonathan Hall was pronounced dead at the scene.

His father was charged with murder and booked into the Knox County Detention Center. Jacobs said the case will be presented to a Knox County grand jury.

John Hall is scheduled to be arraigned in Knox District Court Thursday, according to court records. He does not have an attorney listed as of Wednesday morning.

Flat Lick is about 115 miles south of Lexington.

Several other agencies, including the Barbourville Police Department, Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Knox EMS and the Knox County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene, Jacobs said.
