The incident happened just before 4 p.m. in the area of Kentucky Route 58 next to the Mayfield Graves County Airport. The sheriff’s office said the plane landed at the airport, but the pilot was unable to stop the aircraft at the end of the runway.
The plane continued off the runway through a grassy area, through a fence and across Route 58 until it collided with the home in the 2100 block of Route 58. The sheriff’s office said the home was occupied by a woman, but she was not injured.
The pilot also was not injured, according to the sheriff’s office. There were no passengers aboard the plane.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were contacted to investigate the crash. The sheriff’s office said the scene is being secured until federal investigators arrive.
As of 6 p.m. Thursday, Kentucky 58 was closed between KY 131 and KY 301. Only local traffic is allowed to access the blocked off area, the sheriff’s office said.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Sarah Burgess said the road is expected to be closed until noon Friday.
