A golf cart crash Sunday in Lincoln County left one child dead and another injured, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on South Fishing Creek Road. The sheriff’s office said a juvenile girl was driving the golf cart when it left the road and overturned.

A juvenile boy who was a passenger was taken to Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the sheriff’s office. The girl driving the golf cart also suffered injuries.

The Lincoln County coroner told WKYT the boy who died was 13-year-old Dawson Rapp, and the girl who was driving the golf cart is 15. Lincoln County Schools said Rapp was a seventh-grade student at Lincoln County Middle School.

Counseling services have been made available to students and staff at the school.

“We are deeply saddened to share that our school community has suffered a heartbreaking loss with the passing of one of our 7th grade students, Dawson Rapp, following a tragic accident over the weekend,” Lincoln County Schools said in a statement on Facebook. “Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with Dawson’s family, friends, and everyone affected by this loss.”

The sheriff’s office is investigating the crash.
