Former Southern Kentucky judge killed in car crash, police say
A former Kentucky family and district court judge died in a car crash Wednesday, according to the Kentucky State Police.
The crash happened on Kentucky Route 80 in the Shopville community of Pulaski County. State police said Walter Maguire, 82, turned onto Kentucky Route 80 from Kentucky Route 1003 and entered the path of a Chevrolet Silverado.
The Silverado hit Maguire’s front left fender and pushed his vehicle backward and off the westbound shoulder. State police said Maguire was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Silverado continued moving and collided with a Chevrolet Trax at the intersection. State police said there were six total occupants in the Silverado and Trax, none of whom were injured.
Toxicology results are pending for the drivers of the Silverado and Trax, state police said. An investigation is ongoing.
Maguire served as a judge for the 28th Judicial Circuit, which includes Lincoln, Pulaski and Rockcastle counties. he was a district judge from 1978-82 and 1986-2004, and a family court judge from 2007-2013.
