A 20-year-old Casey County man died Tuesday morning, when the horse-drawn wagon he was driving was hit from behind by a minivan.

John Gingerich, of Liberty, was headed north on Ky. 127 in the wagon when the wagon was hit by a Kia Sedona that was also northbound near the intersection with Ky. 501, Kentucky State Police said.

Gingerich was taken to Casey County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the van was not injured, but three minors who were passengers in the van sustained minor injuries and were also taken to Casey County Hospital, state police said.

State police were notified of the crash at 7:24 a.m.

State police said the wagon did not have rear lights or a reflective placard, and the driver of the van did not see it.

Gingerich was Amish and was on his way to work Tuesday morning when the crash occurred, WLEX reported.

It was the second collision involving an Amish horse and buggy in Kentucky this week.

On Sunday, two people were hospitalized in Nicholas County when a pickup truck rear-ended an Amish buggy and then fled the scene, state police said.
