Lexington ice cream company Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream has something new to celebrate: They won a blue ribbon at the recent “ConeCon.”

The North American Ice Cream Association named Crank & Boom’s Dark Chocolate Truffle flavor a blue ribbon winner at its 2025 National Ice Cream Awards, held earlier this month in West Palm Beach, Florida.

According to the national group, the gathering of hundreds of ice cream professionals and dessert entrepreneurs from across the country is the industry’s largest event. The highlight, according to the association, is the ice cream flavor and quality competition, which draw entries from ice cream makers nationwide.

“Being recognized on a national stage is a testament to the hard work and creativity of Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream’s team,” the group said in a news release. “Their dedication to creating exceptional ice cream delights continues to inspire both the industry and their loyal customers.”

Crank & Boom owner Toa Green had hinted at the news in a Nov. 11 social media post, writing, “More to come to recap an amazing 4 days at ConeCon 2025! But we are bringing home some hardware to LEX!!!!!”

Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream is a local, small batch, artisan ice cream maker with two locations in Lexington — one in the Distillery District at 1210 Manchester St. and on at 3101 Clays Mill Rd. #301. It’s also available on Goldbelly.

This isn’t the first time that Crank & Boom has been recognized: It’s been voted Best of Lexington for 13 years in a row and has been profiled in Southern Living magazine as one of the 20 friendliest places in the South.

And it’s been featured in People magazine’s national list of “100 Reasons to Love America” and made the New York Times.

Besides Dark Chocolate Truffle and the other flavors in regular rotation, Crank & Boom does monthly specialty flavors and has just launched ice cream pies for Thanksgiving.
