A plane experienced issues during takeoff at Danville-Boyle County Airport Friday and had to abandon its flight.

The incident happened around 8:15 a.m., according to Deputy Chief Matt Groves with the Danville Fire Department. A Cessna Citation was taking off on runway 31 when it experienced an issue, causing the pilot to abandon the flight.

The plane slid off the runway into the grass, according to Boyle County Emergency Management Director Brian Caldwell.

There were four people on the plane, and none were injured, Groves said.

The Federal Aviation Administration is en route to Danville to investigate the incident. Groves said it’s unknown what issues the plane experienced.

The airport will be closed until the FAA completes its on-scene investigation, Groves said.
