A man from Central Kentucky died Tuesday morning after colliding with a trash truck, according to state police.

The crash happened just before 7 a.m. on Louisville Road (US-127) in Mercer County. Kentucky State Police said a Rumpke trash truck was stopped on the road collecting trash at a home when it was hit from the behind by Jason McCarty, 44, of Harrodsburg, who was driving a Chevrolet Silverado.

McCarty was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police. The driver of the trash truck was not injured.

“Please send a prayer up for all the first responders, law enforcement, coroner’s office and especially fire department who have to deal with such horrible results,” the Mercer County Fire District said in a Facebook post.

State police are investigating the crash.
