If the Lenten season put you in a fishy mood, a popular food site has decreed “The Hands Down Best” fish sandwiches in each state.

In Kentucky that sandwich is served by Mike Linnig’s in Louisville. The publication, Mashed, wrote March 21 it determined which was the best by “scouring the internet for reviews.” The Louisville establishment has consistently good reviews on Google.

Mike Linnig’s Famous Fish Sandwich (a self-ordained name) features two pieces of fried fish and house tartar sauce between two thick slices of bread. The sandwich goes for $20.

The restaurant is in its 102nd year, and its menu goes well beyond seafood with chicken (either half a chicken or just the wings, livers or gizzards...nuggets, too), steaks, burgers, soups and more.

“The seafood staple has been open for over 100 years, with its fish sandwich landing itself on lists of iconic Louisville sandwiches,” Mashed wrote.

For those looking to satisfy their fish sandwich cravings in Lexington, Reddit users suggest Charlie’s Fresh Seafood Market, Palmers Fresh Grill, Dudley’s on Short and more.

The Herald-Leader reached out to Mike Linnig’s for comment.
