A man from West Liberty died Friday, after he came into contact with live power lines while working on the property of Foothills Communications in Johnson County.

Oil Springs Fire and Rescue said they were called to the scene in Staffordsville at 6:34 p.m. and found the victim “in a man-lift basket, 30-35 feet in the air, and still in contact with the live power lines.”

He was pronounced dead at the scene after the three power lines were disabled by AEP-Kentucky Power.

“As a precautionary measure, the Foothills standby generator was also disabled to prevent any power backfeed, resulting in a minor disruption to some Foothills services,” the fire department said in a social media post.

Foothills Communications identified the victim as Jonathan Brown.

“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Jonathan’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We extend our deepest sympathies to all who knew and cared for him,” the telecommunications company Foothills Communications said in a Facebook post.

Brown, 48, was pressure washing a building when the incident occurred, according to WYMT.

Ky. 40 was closed in both directions while emergency responders handled the situation, the fire department said.
