A 64-year-old man died Tuesday in an electric bicycle crash in Kentucky, according to Rowan County coroner John Northcutt.

The crash happened near the 3100 block of McBrayer Road in Clearfield. Northcutt said the man, also from Clearfield, lost control of the e-bike and was ejected.

A person called 911 around 7:39 p.m. after discovering the crash scene, according to Northcutt. Paramedics responded to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead.

The man’s identity was not provided. The Rowan County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the crash.

E-bikes use a combination of battery power and leg work to propel forward. Kentucky state law does not regulate or define e-bikes while Lexington ordinances define e-bikes as a dockless vehicle that travel a maximum speed of 15 miles per hour.
