A former McCracken County school resource officer has been charged with multiple misdemeanor offenses following an investigation into allegations of misconduct, according to Kentucky State Police.

On May 11, Kentucky State Police received a call from McCracken County High School reporting inappropriate actions by School Resource Officer Darrin Frommeyer. The allegations had been reported to school administrators by a student, a news release said.

“During the investigation, the student explained that Officer Frommeyer had accessed her cellphone without her permission and took ‘selfie’ photos of himself on her phone two different times. It was also reported that Officer Frommeyer contacted the student multiple times through the social media platform TikTok and interacted with her Instagram account,” the news release said.

Frommeyer was employed by the McCracken County School System at the time of the reported incidents.

Frommeyer communicated with the student outside of the school’s designated traceable communication system at least three separate times, in violation of state law, police said.

“Due to Officer Frommeyer being a public servant, the reported violations (led) to the criminal offenses of Official Misconduct 2nd Degree. Officer Frommeyer has since resigned from his position with the McCracken County School System,” police said.

Frommeyer, 58, of Paducah, has been charged with three counts of official misconduct second degree and two counts of unlawful access to a computer fourth degree, police said.

WPSD in Paducah reported that Jeremy Ian Smith, Frommeyer’s legal counsel, said in a statement Monday:

“To be clear, SRO Frommeyer has - in no way, shape or form - been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. This is all a much to do about nothing that isn’t even close to being something. However, there is proof in this pudding. The proof is, if you’re a school resource officer, do not have a personality.”

According to WPSD, McCracken County Schools officials said in a statement that the officer was placed on administrative leave when the school found out about the allegations.

“On June 16, 2026, the Officer resigned from employment with McCracken County Schools. On June 22, 2026, the Kentucky State Police notified district officials that criminal charges had been filed against the former employee,” the district statement said. “McCracken County Schools is fully cooperating with the Kentucky State Police and will refer all questions regarding the criminal investigation and charges to law enforcement authorities.”
