A search is underway in Carter County for a 19-year-old woman who was reported missing while boating on Grayson Lake.

Marly Kinney, of Ashland, was last seen at the lake on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, which is leading the search.

On Wednesday afternoon, Kentucky State Police charged an Ashland man, Cameron Conley, 23, with operating a boat or watercraft while intoxicated or under the influence.

Conley told staff at Grayson Lake Marina that he was “unable to locate a female passenger on the boat he was operating,” which prompted a police response, state police said in a citation filed in Carter District Court.

“Search efforts are focused on the water at this time and include Kentucky State Police aerial support, drones, boats and K9 assistance,” the Fish and Wildlife Department said in a statement Friday night.

The city of Grayson said the Grayson Fire Department has been using city response boats to help with canine search efforts and to run sonar.

Fish and Wildlife said about 50 volunteers have been walking the banks of the lake.

In addition to KSP and the Grayson Fire Department, Fish and Wildlife said a number of other agencies are helping with the search, including the Lexington Fire Department; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; Kentucky State Parks rangers; emergency management officials from Carter, Elliott and Boyd counties; Ashland Fire Department and the Elliott County Sheriff’s Office.

While talking to Conley at the marina on Wednesday, state police said they smelled alcohol and noticed that his eyes were glassy and bloodshot. The police citation says he admitted to consuming alcohol.

Conley was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on Boat Ramp Road and taken to the Carter County Detention Center, where state police said they administered an Intoxilyzer test, which is used to determine blood alcohol concentration.

“Mr. Conley’s breath result was 0.135,” the citation states.

Conley was released on his own recognizance the same day, according to court records. He’s scheduled for arraignment July 22.
